Great-tailed Grackles in the Great State of Texas

Grackles are all too common in the Colvin Run Habitat. Here in the great state of Texas, they have Great-tailed Grackles and they are everywhere in the state. The males are dark black.
The females are dull brown and smaller.

I’m not sure if this last photo is an immature grackle at the end of his first season. Any Texan know? Posted by Picasa

When Bob M, Mark, Chip and I were down in Austin talking to the VA we met at a restaurant before the meeting. A grackle made the really loud grackle call right over our head from the roof as we walked out. That call was a familiar one to me - since I had heard it all my life. But - it certainly surprised everyone else. It's a call that's hard to describe - like a bird thunder clap?
